Jeju Island March 2016

Yes, yes, this is long overdue... I apologise for my tardiness. We spent a week in Jeju a few months ago.  The amount of fresh seafood there is UNBELIEVABLE!  Coupled with good grilled beef kalbi and some fantastic makgeolli, we were in heaven! For a week! Makes me want to coo Belinda Carlisle's song... We arrived in Incheon in the afternoon and took a train to Gimpo airport for our domestic flight to Jeju.  It was really short, like 45 mins max,  Then the shuttle bus took us to the car rental office, where we grappled with the Korean GPS After some mime and some patience later, we were off to Jeju city in our rented car. Here are some highlights...

Yummy Korean Big Wide Hotpot Lunch!

Looks appetizing right?  This is the Beoseot Bulgogi Jeongol from Dal-In 2 on Amoy Street,  Delish!  Beef bulgogi and mushrooms in a spicy broth with ramyun noodles and rice cakes!  Ooh, heaven is a place on earth!  I only realised it was a branch of Dal-In on Boon Tat Street after I saw the head server and realised she's from the original Dal-In.   Dal-In 2 21 Amoy Street Singapore 069856 Tel: 6222 4647

How great is that?

Fantastic looking eh?  Was hoping to have some tori king ramen last week, but the queue was too long, so my colleague and I ended up at this place called Jeju Korean Restaurant. We were actually seated in a private room! For a party of two! Apparently the seafood used in the restaurant are specially air-flown in! I had the spicy seafood soup, and it had doenjang (korean bean paste) in it which I absolutely adore.  It was seriously good!  The picture doesn't even show the sashimi and starter salad! Yumz!  A bit pricier than WTB, but for a slightly different twist on Korean food, it was quite worth it!     Jeju Korean Restaurant #03-11 100am 100 Tras Street

Taiwanese Railway Bento

炸鸡排便当 I tried the fried chicken cutlet bento on my second visit.  No real complaints on the taste.  My only grouse is the food temperature.  There are no cooking facilities at International Plaza so the food is pre-made and sent over presumably from their main outlet in Kallang.  Would have been much nicer if it were piping hot.  Makes me wanna fly over for the real stuff. Gyoza - 1st attempt

Woah... i must be a genius! Bursting with shrimps and scallops! ooh! Was feeling like muching on some guo1 tie1 a.k.a. chinese potstickers, brother of japanese gyozas, cousin of korean mandoos (hereinafter known as GTs) this weekend, hence this foray/venture into the dark, scary unknown. there are GTs, and there are GTs [note the obvious change in intonations, first inflex to insinuate the good, the second to indicate the bad]. and then there are the rare GTs made to suit personal tastes e.g. the ultra difficult to please hubby known as hao-e. recall, he doesn't eat pork, which so happens to be the main ingredient of GTs. hmm.... so as with the xiu1 mai2 i did some months back, (you remember those do you?) the usual GT recipe was adapted to suit hao-e the emperor's preferences... Stella's Shrimpilicious GTs (makes around 20 GTs) Around 20 medium shrimps, minced ( don't dump into the blender, use the age-old manual chopper, i.e. your kitchen knife) Around 10 small f...
