Hi everyone, my name is joop and I am a drama addict

Most of you know i'm quite the addict. I spend most of my downtime in dramaland, rom-coms are by far my favourite, period roms come a close second. My trusty ipad 2 with a flaking red cover is my favourite medium of choice.     The show I've been "chasing" for the past week? "Scarlet Heart".  It isn't new and it was oddly introduced to me by my dad.  Ha! [Our conversations if at all related to the telly usually involves him telling me to switch it off and go to bed already!]  I'm usually not a huge fan of mainland dramas but this one had Kevin Cheng (!) and everyone was talking about it, even my dad, so i had to see what the fuss was about!  [PS: hao-e reminded me that Kevin is Linda Wong's ex-boyfriend and Linda's dad the one-armed swordsman Wang Yu criticized him for his pedigree (lack of), disapproved of the relationship... Such makjang material that we see so often in weekend Korean dramas in real life! *face palm* Oh and we just saw...

i'm on a roll

crunchyroll that is. ever since ee sin told me about this site, i've been using it to catch up on korean movies. this weekend alone, i must have watched like 5-6 movies. from the very slapstick i.e. marrying the mafia series, to the funny e.g. my tutor friend and unstoppable marriage, frivolous wife and the really touching/sad i.e. humming and a moment to remember. slapstick always works for me - i laugh no matter how many times i've seen similar scenes. and of course i'd watched my tutor friend like, upteem times! but if you are wanting to have some sentimental lovey-dovey stories, no one does it like the koreans. i mean, the actorsare so watchably good-looking, great acting skills and believably storylines, and so so so heart-wrenching. Please do catch "humming" - you'll feel like killing the silly man in the show and "a moment to remember" - and you think you should marry the rake afterall....

花ざかりの君たちへ

This version of hana kimi - I LIKE! Definitely a more believable cast and eye-candy galore!! for those who've never seen this show, can you spot the girl in the above photo? stare hard at the one right below the one with blonde hair. somehow, a storyline like hana kimi can only happen in japan where the guys look so pretty!! and the acting is so so much better than the taiwanese cast. (Sorry Ms Ng)
This is the latest TV serial i've caught on tudou.com. i have no idea what's the 4th word in the title of the series. nevertheless, the storyline's touching, the characters have depth, the acting is great and i absolutely love the humour injected through witty cantonese dialogue. as usual, ouyang zhen hua and wang xi manage to capture the essence of their roles and i must say, i've always enjoyed watching their shows, despite their lack of good looks. they are believably normal looking but they portray their characters so realistically and so full of charm!! i've just completed all 25 episodes... if you haven't started on it, and are looking for some entertainment, this series is recommended. MUM: IF YOU ARE READING THIS, GO TO THE RENTAL STORE AND GET THIS SERIES. SUPER NICE, I GUARANTEE.

Coffee Prince Update

i've just completed the series on www.tudou.com. the last episode (episode 17) was aired in S Korea on 27 Aug 2007. haha. i'm super fast!!! it was a damn predictable ending. but i really enjoyed watching it. the show's recommended to all who's as crazy as i am about korean drama tele. btw, Gong Yoo (the guy in the picture of course) is really cute!!! Lurve his smile!!!

America's Got Talent - Season 2 Results

After 2 excruciating hours when even the weirdos of the show and the hoff came on to perform(!?!)... argh.... a star is born. drum roll please.... And the winner is..... TERRY FATOR !! 2nd position belongs to... Cas Haley !! In 3rd place is the beat-boxing BUTTERSCOTCH !!! and last but not least.... JULIENNE IRWIN takes 4th place! Hao-e and i were gunning for butterscotch and terry fator. we were a little surprised that cas made it to the top 2 but the final result was great! Hurrah hurrah! and i must add, i voted for terry online ok? i am star-maker! haha!

Coffee Prince

Just started watching the hot new korean serial - Coffee Prince . i know i know, i'm watching WAY, WAY too much tv here.. but what else is there to do right? it's about this 24 year old girl (tomboy actually) who works almost 24 hours a day to pay off her family's debts. she gets to know these 2 brothers (rich of course!) and falls in love with the good-for-nothing younger brother who thinks she's a boy and uses her to ward off the girls he's match-made with. they then go on to run this coffee house called 'coffee prince' of course and he slowly finds himself falling for her. but he's not gay, or so he thinks... so he keeps rejecting his feelings... i just finished episode 3 and i can just predict the ending. but it's still fun to find out what happens in the middle...

Wonderful Life

I just finished Wonderful Life in 30 hours! all 16 episodes! boy, i'm proud of myself. this is one of those tearjerkers/feel gooders that the koreans are so adept at making... sigh. woohoo... my eyes are puffy from all the tears i shed. every time se-jin's mother appears, i cry. she's got such a sad look! makes me miss my mother much much more!! (notice sentence before makes use of words starting with "m"?) it's a pretty good show, though both leads aren't the best lookers korea has to offer. neither are they the best actors... but they gave a credible performance. the show was really stolen by the little girl who played their daughter. she's so cute, i just feel like pinching her cheeks every single time she comes on screen. as with all melodramatic soaps, this one has the little girl falling gravely ill towards the end... you can't imagine the buckets of tears i shed for her... i'm so glad it is a nice and happy ending.

Calypso Tumblers Got Axed

Am watching america's got talent as i type. my favourite - butterscotch - made it safely through to the top 8. but dutton's and calypso tumblers got axed from the top 10. i'm a bit disappointed that calypso tumblers got axed. sigh.

Corner With Love

Am now watching the tv series, Corner With Love. (Last 6 episodes to go...) This time its the gal that is rich, talented and (supposedly) beautiful. well, i can only say that barbie hsu isn't my type. furthermore i think her acting hasn't improved since her meteor garden days. in some scenes when she's poor, she looks exactly like shancai. ha. alan luo is however surprisingly honest and refreshing to watch, though he doesn't get my heart beating unlike... DEAN FUJIOKA or fujioka tatsuo. gosh, he's unbelievably good-looking. this picture doesn't do him any justice. i'll go look for more.

Korean shows

this post is all godpa-in-law's doing. i'm a drama freak. in particular, i have a soft spot for korean shows. the storylines are almost the same. usually there is this freaking handsome male lead, who's often rich/powerful/intelligent and most of the time pretty cold. the female lead is essentially pretty/cute and kind. (my sassy girl has it reversed, that's why it's fun!) there are also usually 2 other characters, one supporting female who is male lead's ex or current girlfriend, and another male who's courting the female lead. in the end, if neither of the female or male leads die of an accident/fatal disease, they'll get together! (this is the ending i lurve.) BUT, there's a chance that one of them dies first like in autumn love story, stairway to heaven, and winter sonata (almost). argh.. that kind of ending, i'm not fond of. cos it's just very sad. so what if the shows do not reflect reality. come on seriously, where do you get s...

Love Magicians

Got hold of this TV series from a fren here. Knew it wouldn't be anything very interesting. The series is acted by this taiwanese boy band "183 club" and the only member missing yan xing shu is the cutest of the bunch. so there you have it, one of the worst shows i've ever watched, just because of the lack of palatable men. as for estrogens, well, again taiwanese shows play up the guys-drop dead gorgeous gals-plain janes story, so the lead actress looks worse than ella of s.h.e., she's qiao qiao of the girl group "sweety". need i say more? i'm just letting it play on the laptop while i go about doing other stuff. not captivating at all. somehow, taiwanese shows are always a little less enjoyable than the chinese/hong kong/korean/jap shows. BUT they are still much better than mediacorp shows.

TV Series Worth Catching

ppl who have known me for a few years know that i can get glued to the tube for the entire day. i can literally finish a whole, boxed TV series (esp those Korean/Taiwanese ones) in a day! So one of the best things about moving here is the good ole' tele. CSI and comedies reruns e.g. seinfeld, friends, everybody loves raymond, the simpsons, etc are on during most parts of the day. when i get bored with them, i switch to the food network to oogle at the great-looking dishes made by sandra lee, rachael ray, OR i could watch "whose wedding is it anyway?" on style network OR there's fun celebrity rankings on E! channel... and the list goes on. I love cable. so the 2 series i'm currently going ga-ga over are: the tudors (jon rhys meyers, need i say more?) heroes tudors is on showtime on sundays at 11pm while heroes is on monday nights at 10pm. Pity i can't catch weeds (a show about some ppl's favourite plant - the weed!!) which is on monday nights at 10pm,...
