had a nice chat with hl and h and their little angel, avery on saturday. we brought some prima taste laksa to share with them (thank you prima taste!) and they made bak kut teh. very nice. played a little with their daughter avery... wonder how hayley is doing? i think sai's and shawn's kids should be coming too... babies galore! back to the office, wishing it wasn't monday again. why can't weekends be longer? time always passes slowly on mondays. the cat is back on the island so the mice (me included) can't go out to play no more... on top of that, i forgot my cell and pinkie so no nice songs for me (when did mediacorp and power98 stop live streaming?). sucks. sucks. suck. sulk. sulk. sulk. What do you do on a sucky, sulky monday?
I'm blogging on my 28th birthday... on this unusually wet and muggy day, I'm... reading: The Senator's Wife by Sue Miller hearing: Xiao Yu's newest album, So What by Pink, the drip from the air-con vent smelling: the rain (it's not about to let up) feeling: excited.. we're going to watch transformers tonight thinking: happy thoughts (a few more baby steps to the big '3-0', gulp) eating: curry mushrooms (the vege not the drug), nectarine, banana drinking: water, orange juice no cake this year. no-one baked/bought and i'm too lazy.

Gyoza - 1st attempt

Woah... i must be a genius! Bursting with shrimps and scallops! ooh! Was feeling like muching on some guo1 tie1 a.k.a. chinese potstickers, brother of japanese gyozas, cousin of korean mandoos (hereinafter known as GTs) this weekend, hence this foray/venture into the dark, scary unknown. there are GTs, and there are GTs [note the obvious change in intonations, first inflex to insinuate the good, the second to indicate the bad]. and then there are the rare GTs made to suit personal tastes e.g. the ultra difficult to please hubby known as hao-e. recall, he doesn't eat pork, which so happens to be the main ingredient of GTs. hmm.... so as with the xiu1 mai2 i did some months back, (you remember those do you?) the usual GT recipe was adapted to suit hao-e the emperor's preferences... Stella's Shrimpilicious GTs (makes around 20 GTs) Around 20 medium shrimps, minced ( don't dump into the blender, use the age-old manual chopper, i.e. your kitchen knife) Around 10 small f
Over the long weekend, we sat down and debated over the upcoming trip to the Bay Area. There were 2 choices - one, to fly via New York (possibly stopover in Manhattan); and two, to fly via Miami (possibly stopover in Miami). In the end, we decided to spend 5 days (October 1st - 5th) in SF area and 3 days (October 6th- 8th) in Miami. Have never been to Miami, so this could be pretty exciting... any suggestions for food, much appreciated.
Listening to pinkie makes time passes so much faster… maybe not faster, but at least I’m idling to some really cool music. Pinkie has been jam-packed with some new albums courtesy of my faithful friends who so willingly share their recent assets in the cyberworld. [I don’t actually know these people, but I’m thankful for their existence along with the few gems that upload all the entertainment shows on youtube that keep me relatively sane and happy.] So there’s the OST for Black & White, Lala’s first album [since her win], a quirky album from zhang xuan and the newest album from soda green. Haven’t been able to see my best friend with the same initials as me (www) because some twit changed my CPU and somehow I’m not able to logon to the cyberworld. Bah. Vomitus volumous. So marian keyes has been loyal companion while I while away 8 hours of my life everyday. In her latest book “This Charming Man”, she explores the topic of domestic violence. It’s an amazing statistic – 5
Just as i was indulging myself in my USD 2.80 can of singapore-made Pokka carrot juice - some divine being must have heard my earnest plea! - and wolfing down my USD 7.75 sushi combo for lunch, we got wind of some possible bad news from home. nope it's not the piggy flu - my eyes have been peeled for new cases in singapore, sq25 is my preferred transit home ok. nope it's not our parents (btw, my dad just had minor surgery on his left eye. he has glaucoma so his eye needed "draining". it's really scary cos as with all eye surgery, you get to watch and listen to the entire process) but someone every bit as dear to us. no confirmed prognosis yet but we're hoping for the best possible outcome - that it is caught early and treatable with the least possible pain. I sincerely believe that if Pokka carrot juice can make it to Bermuda, all things are possible and can be made right. Keeping you in our prayers.
Listening to Khalil on my pinkie (the ipod shuffle, not my little finger), twidling my thumbs, wondering what else to do today. Was out sick on Monday and Tuesday. Came back yesterday and cleared all backlog (if you could even call it that) within 1 hour. then i changed 1 air-ticket, changed 1 taxi booking, made new hotel reservation, cancelled crap hotel booking, sent one expense form to london for approval, checked penalty for changing date of another air ticket, booked taxis for another trip, set up 2 meetings, booked venues and people's schedules.... yikes, started twidling thumbs at 11am. looked forward to sushi lunch. came back to more thumb exercise after lunch. i was trying so hard not to fall asleep. AND my thumbs are so SORE from all that twidling. my only consolation = pay per hour of real work must be hitting the roof . my pay per hour at work is already quite high compared to the horrible workaholic husband of mine. his pay is quite neglible lor; i earn so much in com
