District 9

Aliens = sci-fi. Not quite. Aliens = violence and earth invasion? Nope, they're just lost and seeking refuge. Aliens = extra-terrestrial? Not really either. how many times have you entered a foreign country and were labeled an 'alien' with alien immigration and custom forms and an alien queue for inspection? Are we obliged to offer refuge to aliens? If they wreck havoc, can we drive them away or even kill them? I have been an alien/2nd-class citizen for the past 2 years. I don't cause havoc so i hope they never evict me or cart me off for experiments. i'm definitely more tolerant now of the banglas back home although i'd still avoid little india at night on weekends. slowly creeping towards a happy society...
Hi guys, it's Friday again! 40mins into this workday, so there are 2.5 hours to lunch and 6+hours to happy hour. woohoo! the countdown to the weekend has begun!
Hurricane Bill is scheduled to course past Bermuda on Saturday. We might have to fly out on Thursday.
On a blistering hot Monday, I trudged along in my new glossy black reef slippers from waterfront to burnaby street. the purpose? to register for ballet classes at jacksons school of dancing. it has been 4-5 years since the leotards, tights and shoes went into storage. time to dredge them up from the back of the closet. hope they're not mouldy or i'd have to buy another pair of shoes! i dread to think how i would look in those things now. argh. but it will be fun to pick it up the hobby again.
Public Enemies was good! Johnny Depp was fantastic, you can literally see him change from cold, hard criminal to a loyal friend, passionate lover. There were a lot of "raw" firearm shooting scenes, no background music whatsover, made me feel like i was really in the midst of the shoot-out. i like that they tried to be annal about the costumes, hair-styles (the amount of gel on each head is amazing), and the sets, the lighting, made it seem very real. i give it a 70% for credible acting from depp and slater and 85% for the production crew for being so meticulous.
Was waylaid by SISLEY during yesterday's mid-day adventure into town. It was having a half-off sale, end of season i suspect. I thought i'd stick my head in for a quick look-round. but obviously i ended up buying 2 tops - 1 was a black vest i've been eyeing and the other was a olive green wrap-around sweater with butterfly-flappy wings (in anticipation of cooler weather in the fall). yeps both were half price, which is such a good deal ain't it? these are the times i'm truly grateful to be on this island. no crowds, no lack of sizes and no queues for the fitting rooms. ultimate bliss lor! i think i'll be shocked at the crowds when we head over to california in October. i booked 3 cars for the trip from Enterprise, Hertz and Budget. haha, i'm kiasu i know. but they don't charge for the bookings so just book lor! (2nd lor in 3 lines, better explain. 'lor' is very flexible. it can mean an emphasis, or an overly obvious statement e.g.
i'm trying to recover from a head-splitting migraine that woke me up at 5am this morning. had to drag myself out of bed, grab some cereal and down 2 panadols to quell it abit. as a result, i'm a little groggy, fuzzy and not quite awake. it is now after 1pm. i hope i don't fall asleep at the desk. there's this dull ache at the back of my skull, i think it is pre-assignment-related stress. this is perhaps the do-or-die stage of my life. if i succeed (i.e. excel + like), i would begin my next phase of life in a brand new career, totally disjointed from my last. it may justify a longer stay on the island just to see how it all pans out. it's been a long break from real work. saw GI Joe on Saturday with Colin. there were cringe-worthy moments involving some cliche lines from the Baroness Sienna Miller. (there was never a moment in the show when i believed her to be a killer, never. that's how bad she is.) there were other lol moments with ripcord as well. but
