So...

...we went to test drive some cars on saturday, the 3 common german brands namely, audi, merc and bmw.  pocky our trusty vios, has less than 18 months left on the COE, and sitting in the car is giving me a backache, i think the cushion is getting too soft, hence this expedition.  i think we have decided, matt is probably going for a test-drive himself (he didn't drive the cars on saturday, i did) and we'll see what kind of freebies he can get from the dealer.  i never thought i would drive this brand till i'm 60, but the new models turned out pretty young and sporty.  fingers crossed all will go well.

End of Week Musings

Spent a few days in what my sister likes to call Sanrio land.  It was my first time to Tokyo, and hers, and we had a great time.  Fresh fish, good food, great shopping, courteous people, excellent service standards, clean and quiet for a metropolitan city, what more is there to ask for?  Bought some pretty things that I doubt I would be using very often, e.g. Little Twin Stars chopsticks, bento boxes (2 sets!) and a huge ceramic plate.... oh well, you do crazy stuff when you're overseas. Have also paid the deposit to our Alaska cruise next August!  Yes, almost 11 months ahead.  Why do people plan to cruise 12 months in advance?  Not many cabins left you know... It's going to be a memorable trip, first cruise and probably most expensive trip ever taken so far.  It's our 10th anniversary... It better be good. Am looking forward to my new ping clubs, picking them up on Sunday.  Hopefully they're good.  I'm going to be using gloves on my 2 hands now, right ring fing

Completed Golf 101 on to 102.

Last Sunday, we completed all 10 lessons of our beginner Golf package.  Another task completed for 2014. Happy. Only realised we seem to be ahead of most people (i guess our eye-hand-legs coordination is ok) so the coach has nothing else to teach us after the third or fourth lesson. Boo. Ordered my customised set of irons.  Happy. Clubs are going to take 3-4 weeks to arrive, can only play with second hand matsushiba.  Boo. Bought a damn cute set of golfing apparel. Happy. Facialist says I have more freckles on my left cheek. Damn the bloody sun!!!  Boo. Picked up some second hand callaway clubs for hao-e last night, so that can supplement the matsushiba set for a while.  Happy. Generally happy. Now that we are on our own, we will be embarking on the following training plan to be handicapped within a year, such plan named and hereinafter referred to as "The Lim Family Golf Handicap Attainment Plan" :- Twice weekly driving range practice, 75 balls each Week

A Job vs Career

Years ago, when I first started work after graduating from university, I was told by a co-worker, a few years senior that she was looking for a career, not just a plain old job.  At that time i was young, impressionable, and totally floored by what sounded so mature from someone not much older than myself.  A career!  Yes! A single word that expresses conviction, commitment and passion.  So powerful!  So jaw-droppingly awesome!  I've used this exact expression in subsequent years during job interviews and I suspect it impressed many of my interviewers as well.  It has become one of the interview techniques I use to land a job.  Do I mean it?  I doubt it, definitely not at the interview.  I might develop a feel for the job after a few weeks, which will determine whether I will stay on, but I certainly cannot tell you for sure that this job will be my career!   I've been reminded that this is the 10th year I've been in official employment/unemployment, post graduation.

Our vacation in beautiful Maldives

Maldives tomorrow

We're leaving for Maldives tomorrow for our 9th anniversary and Hao-e's birthday.   I hope the weather holds up and this silly cold/flu/sore throat will not affect our plans.  Praying for safe air travel as well.
