D-15

In a little over a fortnight, we'll be seeing our baby girl again.  It's been so long, I hope she has some inkling of what's happening with her and is as excited as we are. There are still many hurdles we have to clear before you become our daughter. I hope you are eating, sleeping and growing well.  Sweet dreams, little one.

Lit

An old slang word made new again. ... ' Lit ' has been a slang term  meaning  "intoxicated" for over a century. More recently, it has acquired the  meaning  "exciting," as well as a broader  meaning  along the lines of "excellent."  For example, "This song is lit af. I'm so totally into it, it's looping on my phone." I don't have to explain "af", do I?  There's this song by G.E.M. that I can't get out of my head.  Lit af.
If you're looking for something funny, yet poignant to read, I would recommend you pick up A Man Called Ove . You'll have a new take on the curmudgeons in your life. curmudgeon kəːˈmʌdʒ(ə)n/ noun noun:  curmudgeon ; plural noun:  curmudgeons a bad-tempered or surly person. synonyms: bad-tempered person

Now we know it was Eminem/Dido

stan stan/ informal noun 1 . an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity. "he has millions of stans who are obsessed with him and call him a rap god" verb 1 . be an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity. "y'all know I  stan for  Katy Perry, so I was excited to see the artwork for her upcoming album" It's never good to be overzealous or obsessive, to anyone, celebrity or otherwise! Please respect people's privacy. I don't think I'm obsessing over any one artiste, although there are a few people I would pay a lot of $$$ to see in-person:- Jacky Cheung - and we saw him last year on his world tour.  Fantabulous! Jay Chou - and we have seen him twice already in the last 3-4 years.  Always a sing-a-long session at the stadium Jam Hsiao - cos he's got excellent vocals, when is he coming for a concert again? think i'd missed the previous ones My cu

On air quality...

Beijing, 23:00 hours, last evening Sis is in China this week spending a few days in the grasslands of Inner Mongolia/Beijing.  *Cue patriotic music*  So patriotic she is... promoting Singapore during National Day week! *Cough! Y-e-ah cough R-I-G-H-T cough!* Last night before she slept, I asked her how's the pollution situation in Beijing, any smell, need to wear mask or not?  She replied, no burning smell, but you can't see the sun, like Shanghai.  (How is that statement not alarming by itself?) So I sent her the above screenshot and said "RED BARS LEH!" And still she insisted can't see lah... (OMG! Do you have microscopic eyes? special x-woman powers? How does one see PM2.5 particles?)   Singapore, 22:00 hours, last evening This is the situation in Singapore.  No red bars (YET!) but forests are starting to burn in my favourite neighbour country.  Perhaps it's time to stockpile the 3M masks and replace the air filters...

Amazon Prime Now - Experience So Far

I use Amazon on a regular basis to bring in my thermacare belts for my lower back.  As an avid online shopper, I buy a lot stuff online amazon, qoo10, etc.  Imagine my excitement when Amazon decided to open a distribution centre locally?  No more shipping to a PO box in US!  No more worrying about buying over US$125 to get free shipping to Singapore! Wow! And holy smokes, 2-hour deliveries! I just had to try it out. So I downloaded the app, (yes, you heard right, you can't order using the regular amazon website on your pc/laptop.  You have to use the prime now app, not even the regular amazon app...) and browsed through the range.  Hmm... that's sort of disappointing... I mean it's nice to have groceries delivered in 2 hours, especially if you decide on the spur of the moment to have a party at home or something, but the products available were certainly limited. I have since ordered from amazon prime now 3 times in the last week. Their deliveries come in brown bags (br

Are you our baby Eva?

On Friday, 21st July 2017, at 1:54pm, I got a text from our agent regarding a one-week old infant girl in Medan.  She was born on Saturday, 15th July 2017, at 8:35am weighing 3.0kg. I glanced at the photos of the baby girl.  After numerous photos of babies, I was initially ambivalent. I tried looking at them logically without emotion. But really, there's no way you could look at this baby and not feel anything. In other words, she's precious.  She may be our baby girl.  OMG. We made plans to see her in Medan on Monday, 31st July 2017.  The plane ride there was marred by a noisy aircraft but we got there safe and on time.  Then came the bumpy, long ride to the agent's house.  Traffic was atrocious as it was a weekday but we had a skillful driver and he got us to where we had to go although you really had to trust him and all the other motorists on the road... Little baby girl was 2-weeks old when we saw her.  She's tiny. She yawned and fussed for milk.  I held her,
