Just as i was indulging myself in my USD 2.80 can of singapore-made Pokka carrot juice - some divine being must have heard my earnest plea! - and wolfing down my USD 7.75 sushi combo for lunch, we got wind of some possible bad news from home. nope it's not the piggy flu - my eyes have been peeled for new cases in singapore, sq25 is my preferred transit home ok. nope it's not our parents (btw, my dad just had minor surgery on his left eye. he has glaucoma so his eye needed "draining". it's really scary cos as with all eye surgery, you get to watch and listen to the entire process) but someone every bit as dear to us. no confirmed prognosis yet but we're hoping for the best possible outcome - that it is caught early and treatable with the least possible pain. I sincerely believe that if Pokka carrot juice can make it to Bermuda, all things are possible and can be made right. Keeping you in our prayers.
As I learn about everyone's plans to welcome the Golden Tiger Year, the more unhappy I become. Although it was a conscious effort on our part to avoid being home for the Lunar New Year, I cannot help but feel left out during this all-important holiday. On this island, we have all but 1 so-called Chinese restaurant. Every year, they would put up the red banner a few weeks before CNY. One red banner compared to the numerous ones back home. How pathetic eh? There is no atmosphere whatsoever. With the "influx" of Chinese kids, 4 in total plus 1 soon-to-be-born, I made myself pack some red envelopes from home, so that the kids can experience a little of the festivities that I am so used to. WHAT IS CHINESE NEW YEAR WITHOUT THE RED PACKETS?
