Counting my Blessings

Cute Comment Notes

As i took a much-needed break from "W" last week due to a broken back and caught up with my 100th serial/tv show, i realised that it has been slightly more than a year since we'd moved to Bermuda! I still recall stepping off the plane onto a mobile staircase - a la BT style in Singapore - and into the cool yet humid air, looking at the baby pink terminal building and listening to laidback caribbean music while waiting in line at the immigration. That was 7th April 2007. Woo.....

Ok, a round up is definitely timely.

One, i found out that i love Caribbean music - the beat is absolutely infectious and it makes me very happy when the gym instructor switches to Caribbean music during aerobics. never thought i could smile while jumping around.

Two, i like island living. what's island living you say? well, it means being on a small stretch of land, having things close by - only take 10 mins into town instead of 45 mins on the train; having neighbours (indeed everyone's a neighbour given the proximity of everything) who smile, wave say "hello" and get offended when you ignore them; no shopping to speak of except for necessities - never thought i would mention that eh? but it just means i treasure off island trips a lot more; having a mini car - can't afford it back home; tagging along on hao-e's work trips - non-existent back where he was working...

Three, i like not having to work too hard and yet still getting appreciation from fellow workers. We need to inculcate the culture back home - saying "thanks, i really appreciate it" and not "it's his job anyway".

Four i love my very very fast internet connection that allows me to keep updated with the latest shows/ movies.

Last but of course not least - i like having Hao-e around. aww...

i don't think i need to list the complaints i have about this island or how i miss the people and things back home. i think i've been whining a little too much about them here. hee... for now, let's count our blessings....

dinner at swizzle inn

last night we had a most scrumptious bbq dinner at the original swizzle inn . much much much better than the dinner we had some days back with O and K at the branch in warwick. woo.... i had the char-grilled prime rib and the much famed rum swizzle, while hao-e had the margarita shrimp and strawberry daiquiri. blogging about it brings back nice memories. heh. Oh! C and i found some fresh watercress at the marketplace yesterday. so today's lunch we had watercress soup. i've been yearning for some light clear vegetable soup for some time... especially after a discussion with HL about the lack of vege variety here, and how she spotted kailan on the island! KAILAN !!! how did they manage to get their hands on kailan ?! i was joking with HL that one of the chefs must have secretly brought over some seeds and planted some in his back garden. or else why doesn't kailan appear in the vege aisle of the marketplace as well?! oh, and i bought some canned longan, jackfrui...

Amazon Prime Now - Experience So Far

I use Amazon on a regular basis to bring in my thermacare belts for my lower back.  As an avid online shopper, I buy a lot stuff online amazon, qoo10, etc.  Imagine my excitement when Amazon decided to open a distribution centre locally?  No more shipping to a PO box in US!  No more worrying about buying over US$125 to get free shipping to Singapore! Wow! And holy smokes, 2-hour deliveries! I just had to try it out. So I downloaded the app, (yes, you heard right, you can't order using the regular amazon website on your pc/laptop.  You have to use the prime now app, not even the regular amazon app...) and browsed through the range.  Hmm... that's sort of disappointing... I mean it's nice to have groceries delivered in 2 hours, especially if you decide on the spur of the moment to have a party at home or something, but the products available were certainly limited. I have since ordered from amazon prime now 3 times in the last week. Their deliveries come ...

Happy Easter!

Busy Easter weekend! Got my screening report from the doctors on Thursday, I have to cut down on sugars, oily food and carbs.... uhoh, nothing about the lumps so i'm grateful. Marc Jacobs bag arrived in the evening, woohoo!   Good Friday was spent in Church and shopping at Sim Lim Square for Hao-e's new PC. Pilates on Saturday morning after a week's break, super out of shape.  think i should probably start doing some exercises at home and maybe go for swim downstairs when i get a chance. Chewy had a good scrubbing session at noon then off to watch Le Noir at Sands Theatre on Saturday afternoon, fun! Cousin-in-law's wedding dinner at Conrad on Saturday evening, no shark's fin which was a bummer. Easter mass on Sunday morning followed by Qingming thingamie at Mt Vernon. Sunday brunch at York Hotel's Penang Hawker Buffet, yum! Watched 1.5 movies too - GI Joe (meh) and SVFV (vulgar).  SVFV was the movie that  was banned and made the h...
