I need to ramble, bamble.

If i could lay in bed with a good book, I would gladly vegetate there for all eternity, rising only to quell hunger pangs and for loo trips. But no, man ain't built to live on air and sunshine, unlike the plants. we need cash to buy things that keep us alive e.g. KFC, Coca-Cola, Nike, Nintendo, a Tiffany or two and of course the book which we had wanted to be buried with in the first place.

Given that we need cash to pay for expenses, and an ever-increasing source of cash at that, cos expenses only increase with inflation, age and expectations. we devote most of our waking time to this thing called work for 40-44 hours a week. more if you are a workaholic like hao-e. That leaves little time for anything else. In my line of work, I don't get paid if I don't turn up and that sucks, cos I am made to keep working and i feel compelled to work work work for the $$$.

Besides the huge time-consumer called "employment", because of reasons I shall not go into now, I need to devote some time every day to task "S", which has this huge deadline in the middle of May. In addition to that, I have to get up early for work, and I mean early at 6.20am! After work I need to go to the gym to burn off calories else risk being labelled unhealthy (it's a boo boo on the island to be unhealthy). Then I need to get home and watch my daily dose of tv shows (that is a habit I'm not about to give up). And then I feel guilty at not starting "S" because it's almost bedtime (i sleep at 11pm. i follow sleeping patterns of the elderly). So i'm left with a few minutes each night for the wonderful novel I've just started called "Until I find you" by Irving. Wretchedly, I feel bad leaving the book on my nightstand every evening after only flipping through less than 10 pages. Sometimes I can't recall what I read the night before because I was so tired, i end up re-reading the pages. argh, sometimes I think i'm just getting upset for nothing. Why rush the book? Why rush at all? Calm down. Be zen...

dinner at swizzle inn

last night we had a most scrumptious bbq dinner at the original swizzle inn . much much much better than the dinner we had some days back with O and K at the branch in warwick. woo.... i had the char-grilled prime rib and the much famed rum swizzle, while hao-e had the margarita shrimp and strawberry daiquiri. blogging about it brings back nice memories. heh. Oh! C and i found some fresh watercress at the marketplace yesterday. so today's lunch we had watercress soup. i've been yearning for some light clear vegetable soup for some time... especially after a discussion with HL about the lack of vege variety here, and how she spotted kailan on the island! KAILAN !!! how did they manage to get their hands on kailan ?! i was joking with HL that one of the chefs must have secretly brought over some seeds and planted some in his back garden. or else why doesn't kailan appear in the vege aisle of the marketplace as well?! oh, and i bought some canned longan, jackfrui...

Pilates on Saturday morning after a week's break, super out of shape.  think i should probably start doing some exercises at home and maybe go for swim downstairs when i get a chance. Chewy had a good scrubbing session at noon then off to watch Le Noir at Sands Theatre on Saturday afternoon, fun! Cousin-in-law's wedding dinner at Conrad on Saturday evening, no shark's fin which was a bummer. Easter mass on Sunday morning followed by Qingming thingamie at Mt Vernon. Sunday brunch at York Hotel's Penang Hawker Buffet, yum! Watched 1.5 movies too - GI Joe (meh) and SVFV (vulgar).  SVFV was the movie that  was banned and made the h...

Amazon Prime Now - Experience So Far

I use Amazon on a regular basis to bring in my thermacare belts for my lower back.  As an avid online shopper, I buy a lot stuff online amazon, qoo10, etc.  Imagine my excitement when Amazon decided to open a distribution centre locally?  No more shipping to a PO box in US!  No more worrying about buying over US$125 to get free shipping to Singapore! Wow! And holy smokes, 2-hour deliveries! I just had to try it out. So I downloaded the app, (yes, you heard right, you can't order using the regular amazon website on your pc/laptop.  You have to use the prime now app, not even the regular amazon app...) and browsed through the range.  Hmm... that's sort of disappointing... I mean it's nice to have groceries delivered in 2 hours, especially if you decide on the spur of the moment to have a party at home or something, but the products available were certainly limited. I have since ordered from amazon prime now 3 times in the last week. Their deliveries come ...
