I spoke to my mother yesterday. it was still a little awkward. conversation topic wasn't helping either. ah well.

On to other things. one, we gave out the presents to jo, colin, patrick/michelle/sophie today. james got his last week, and the remaining 2 presents belong to xy and jeann/stephen.

i'm collecting xy's present today from the store after work. because she got me something really nice, i've had to do some minor re-shuffling of the presents. i do hope she likes it, cos she bought me something she wanted for herself. aww.... xy is otherwise known as the "energiser bunny" cos she really has boundless energy. she is taking fencing with colin in addition to salsa lessons. she's really trying to fill her days with activities. ah.... youth.

i'm planning the menu for the boxing day party at our place. current thinking is:

Starters

  • prawn cocktail - still toying with the idea of making my own cocktail sauce
  • creamy mushroom soup - tried it over the weekend, slight tweaks needed
  • Ham & Cheese from Stanley

Mains - Spanish Baked Chicken or Teriyaki Chicken

Sides

  • potato salad - where's the kewpie?
  • creamed spinach with bacon - trying it out this weekend
  • roasted parsnips - i hope there are nice fresh ones

Dessert - pie from Mich/Pat

Wondering whether i should make both mains, or do another pork or fish thingamie for mains...

I haven't read your blog for a long time. Hope the cold war between you and your mum has since abated.
Whatever you are planning to cook on boxing day...sounds yummy!!!! We are planning xmas eve dinner on our own as well. But I will leave HC to deal with the cooking. If not, we will have to order pizza on standby.

Forgive and Forget

it's been a long time since i've written anything of a serious nature. i try to keep this blog lighthearted but some things have been bugging me lately and i need to ventilate and detox myself. so please bear with me as i spurt and sputter some bad blood. one, because of man A's negligence, my start date has been delayed till further notice. was rather upset about it, not because i was looking forward to what i thought i was about to do, but because once again, my plans have been thwarted by things and people beyond my control. i should have been able to start in july had hao-e's permanent work permit been granted right after his first temporary work permit lapsed. BUT, it didn't happen that way cos hao-e had to settle for a second temporary work permit as they tried to sort out his permanent one. now, with this delay, i'm not sure when i can begin contributing to the "save stella" fund. [C was really cute today as i told her the amount that i ...

Happy Easter!

Busy Easter weekend! Got my screening report from the doctors on Thursday, I have to cut down on sugars, oily food and carbs.... uhoh, nothing about the lumps so i'm grateful. Marc Jacobs bag arrived in the evening, woohoo!   Good Friday was spent in Church and shopping at Sim Lim Square for Hao-e's new PC. Pilates on Saturday morning after a week's break, super out of shape.  think i should probably start doing some exercises at home and maybe go for swim downstairs when i get a chance. Chewy had a good scrubbing session at noon then off to watch Le Noir at Sands Theatre on Saturday afternoon, fun! Cousin-in-law's wedding dinner at Conrad on Saturday evening, no shark's fin which was a bummer. Easter mass on Sunday morning followed by Qingming thingamie at Mt Vernon. Sunday brunch at York Hotel's Penang Hawker Buffet, yum! Watched 1.5 movies too - GI Joe (meh) and SVFV (vulgar).  SVFV was the movie that  was banned and made the h...

Amazon Prime Now - Experience So Far

I use Amazon on a regular basis to bring in my thermacare belts for my lower back.  As an avid online shopper, I buy a lot stuff online amazon, qoo10, etc.  Imagine my excitement when Amazon decided to open a distribution centre locally?  No more shipping to a PO box in US!  No more worrying about buying over US$125 to get free shipping to Singapore! Wow! And holy smokes, 2-hour deliveries! I just had to try it out. So I downloaded the app, (yes, you heard right, you can't order using the regular amazon website on your pc/laptop.  You have to use the prime now app, not even the regular amazon app...) and browsed through the range.  Hmm... that's sort of disappointing... I mean it's nice to have groceries delivered in 2 hours, especially if you decide on the spur of the moment to have a party at home or something, but the products available were certainly limited. I have since ordered from amazon prime now 3 times in the last week. Their deliveries come ...
