3.5 more working days. my mind is on holiday! last evening's kickboxing class totally killed me! i huffed and puffed and threatened to punch my imaginary opponent senseless, but in the end, it was i that suffered, not the air molecules that got knocked around. my body is aching like a 90-year-old who's just completed 100 push-ups. i couldn't sleep last night because of the pain. i had to wake hao-e up to massage my shoulder-blades which were so sore and is still kicking up a ruckus behind me. my gosh! i tis old and feeble.

Some news...

I just learnt over the weekend that the last grand-uncle on my father's side had passed on. We weren't that close when he was alive, but i do recall him being a jolly old chap who was always ready with a smile... as far as grand-uncles go, he's the closest one we had. And of course he lived in malaysia which gave us a perfect excuse for a weekend trip up the causeway, far from the hustle and bustle of maniacal singapore. Another shocking piece of news i heard last week in fact was, me best pal's dad seems to be suffering from dementia. i hope he gets better soon cos i know everyone's worried and imagine the pressure on the family! after hearing that, i've been praying every night that my parents remain healthy and happy, especially during this period when i'm away from home. The 3rd piece of shock i had was that friend X and friend Y have gotten together. both of them are my college mates. BUT friend X was with friend A at that time, and friend Y was w

I don't have the same problems

1. Family Name/Surname Ong - meaning "king". ong is the hokkien pronounciation of "wang2". Equivalent surnames are "wong" in cantonese and "heng" in teochew. according to my dad, we have royal origins, cannot be proven now. 2. Chinese Given Name Wei Wen - a very boyish name. there are more boys called wei wen than there are girls. it has to do with my mother being english educated. but then again, i have to thank her for not giving me a name weirder than what i have now - it could have been much much worse than this. I share the same "wen" as my sister who's called "Hsiao Woen", spelt differently but it is the same chinese character. We don't have a generation name, but there are a number of my cousins using the word "wei" like mine - not the exact same word but sounds the same. So there are a couple of "Ong Wei___" in my extended family. 3. English Given Name Because my parents are english-
