Happy New Year!

2007 has been a "happening" year.

Hao-e and i started this year as newly-weds (in the eyes of the Church and God at least!). Not much adjustments in that cept for the fact that one, it is officially the final bolt (i.e. no turning back now or you'll incur the wrath of HIM...), and two, we have another certificate of marriage from the church. (yes, we have 2! aren't you jealous?!)

Early in the year, we were presented with a new, exciting opportunity in a faraway island, not unlike home in terms of size, and had to make a decision - to go or not to go. We'd decided that this opportunity was too good to pass, for Hao-e's future and our financial security, the final decision was taken - to MOVE! However, the real question was really, were we going to move together as a couple? We tried our luck and through some mystic wonders, God answered our prayers and we moved together here in April. It has been 9 months of adjustments, adjustments and adjustments. I had never been to Bermuda, so i didn't know what to expect. But an island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, with pink sand and turqoise blue sea? that's just too exotic, i thought. I heard jibes from colleagues who thought of getting me bikinis as parting gifts. Others wanted to sell cheap flip-flops and sarongs from Bangkok on the beaches, with a share of the profits of course! And even more envious looks from tai-tai wannabes like me, that I can be on leave and not work for one year.... Ha! The first 2 months here were ok cos everything's still new and unventured. In the past months, if you've received emails from me, i think you should know that i refer to this place as a little kampong. cos, it's a small community of nice people but there ain't too many places to go and not too many things to do. i love the beaches, but how many times do you want me to go there eh? my typical week centred about shopping trips to the supermarket with C., perhaps some lunch and shopping in town (and if you haven't heard, the "town" is all of 3 streets...) and happy hour with hao-e and his colleagues in the office on friday evenings. sometimes, there are house parties to go to in the weekends, but that is it. no meeting up with friends, no KTV, no fantastic japanese buffet, no clubbing at Clarke Quay (not that there are no clubs, but they play reggae and caribbean pop...), no lunches at Sakae Sushi, no shopping at Charles & Keith.... I really missed these activities, and for goodness sakes, i'm 26! not at all suitable for retirement living, don't you think? and holidays aren't very possible, cos we need to save up and hao-e is so busy at work, he can hardly find time for vacations. i'm grateful for this island and what it has to offer us, but i wish there were more things to occupy my time.

beside all the complaints, i have to concede i'm lucky in that i have a brilliant hubby who brings in the bacon (or ham if you prefer the healthier version) and never fails to bring a smile to my face everytime i complain of boredom. And I have a wonderful sister who i rely for advice and counsel. Steph, i thank you for taking care of our parents. You're the greatest! Mum, if you are reading this, which i think you're not, but i'll type it all the same.. I'm sorry i can't be at home with you. This is just a transition period and it won't be long before we move back home.

To all my friends, take care and we'll see each other real soon!

Busy Easter weekend! Got my screening report from the doctors on Thursday, I have to cut down on sugars, oily food and carbs.... uhoh, nothing about the lumps so i'm grateful. Pilates on Saturday morning after a week's break, super out of shape.  think i should probably start doing some exercises at home and maybe go for swim downstairs when i get a chance. Chewy had a good scrubbing session at noon then off to watch Le Noir at Sands Theatre on Saturday afternoon, fun! Cousin-in-law's wedding dinner at Conrad on Saturday evening, no shark's fin which was a bummer. Easter mass on Sunday morning followed by Qingming thingamie at Mt Vernon. Sunday brunch at York Hotel's Penang Hawker Buffet, yum! Watched 1.5 movies too - GI Joe (meh) and SVFV (vulgar).  SVFV was the movie that  was banned and made the h...

dinner at swizzle inn

last night we had a most scrumptious bbq dinner at the original swizzle inn . much much much better than the dinner we had some days back with O and K at the branch in warwick. woo.... i had the char-grilled prime rib and the much famed rum swizzle, while hao-e had the margarita shrimp and strawberry daiquiri. blogging about it brings back nice memories. heh. Oh! C and i found some fresh watercress at the marketplace yesterday. so today's lunch we had watercress soup. i've been yearning for some light clear vegetable soup for some time... especially after a discussion with HL about the lack of vege variety here, and how she spotted kailan on the island! KAILAN !!! how did they manage to get their hands on kailan ?! i was joking with HL that one of the chefs must have secretly brought over some seeds and planted some in his back garden. or else why doesn't kailan appear in the vege aisle of the marketplace as well?! oh, and i bought some canned longan, jackfrui...

Forgive and Forget

it's been a long time since i've written anything of a serious nature. i try to keep this blog lighthearted but some things have been bugging me lately and i need to ventilate and detox myself. so please bear with me as i spurt and sputter some bad blood. one, because of man A's negligence, my start date has been delayed till further notice. was rather upset about it, not because i was looking forward to what i thought i was about to do, but because once again, my plans have been thwarted by things and people beyond my control. i should have been able to start in july had hao-e's permanent work permit been granted right after his first temporary work permit lapsed. BUT, it didn't happen that way cos hao-e had to settle for a second temporary work permit as they tried to sort out his permanent one. now, with this delay, i'm not sure when i can begin contributing to the "save stella" fund. [C was really cute today as i told her the amount that i ...
