Round-up for 2009

There are 21 days left in this year, we're 95% done with 2009! so what have we done this year?

In January, we looked forward to returning to Singapore in February. Emailed everyone we could think of to set up back-to-back get-togethers. (excitement)
In February, we went back to Singapore, and went through health checks, dental appointments, hair and facial appointments, mahjong sessions, meals after meals of so delicious food... we even attempted to swim every day but that was thwarted. brought chewy to the vet for her annual jab and dental scaling. she also had a super cute lion's head hair cut. oh! and we went to wild rocket for valentine's. not to mention shopping in Bangkok!!! (happiness)
In March, I began my plough through the materials for Exams 3L and 3F. =(
In April, we said goodbye, adios and hasta la vista to Francis and Carmen, who went back to Hong Kong. (sigh, we've been abandoned again!) my sister has abandoned me....
In May, it was time to take those exams, which was kinda nerve-wrecking. But after, we took a break to Lisbon, which was darn nice - very inexpensive and totally beautiful. Oh, and i also left my job at the hospital and started at this reinsurance firm. (nervous then relaxed)
In June, hao-e bought me 2 Lesportsac bags for my birthday - i heart lesportsac. i'm 28 and no where near state of "successful".
In July, I started ploughing through material for Exam 4. (eee....) Torty our 11 year old car was sent to the mechanics to prepare for the annual re-licensing "exercise". The couch was also professionally cleaned. At the end of July, there was a possiblity of a Singaporean being hired at Orbis.
In August, I started on this current job in a Japanese reinsurance firm, all very new and exciting.
In September, we celebrated Hao-e's 30th at Harbourfront with Joseph and Colin. I also started going for ballet lessons every wednesday evening. took a long time finding my leotards and tights from the back of the closet. Iannis arrived. Booked tickets to return to Singapore in January 2010!!
In October, we returned to California!! Ate and ate and ate. cold crab sashimi, korean style, has discovered me. salivate. Miami's seafood was to die for as well. Oh! and the shopping. outlet shopping!! can faint. (happiness)
In November, Patrick and Michelle and Sophie arrived. I started working 10-12 hour days. Xinyi arrived! temperature was unseasonably warm. no mood for christmas yet.
In December, I'm still working 9-10 hour days. Iannis left. No cold weather yet, which is sad. It's bloody 24 degs now. wondering where's winter?? planning christmas parties, new year's parties. Textbooks for Exam 5 have arrived. gulp! Kinda looking forward to trip back to Singapore next month.

Back To Reality

It's over! We're finally married (in the eyes of the Church!). It was really pretty fun last sat, thank God for the sunny weather (a bit hot lah, but at least it didn't rain till after), for the wonderful guests and my fantastic friends. hope it wasn't too uncomfortable under the sun for everyone.

Back Safe and Sound

This is my first post since we left Bermuda for Singapore more than 3 weeks ago. We are battling serious jet lag this time. it might be the age-factor (yikes!) or because we didn't rest properly on the flights (yes plural!) back cos we were busy trying to exhaust all the new movies on krisworld, or maybe a combination of both lah. but both of us have been trying very hard to keep awake at 3pm. yes, the sleep monster strikes at that hour! thank God we are going to remove time saving tonight, so we have 1 less hour to correct this weekend. talking about movies, twilight was amazingly easy on the eye! although i hesitate to call ourselves twilight converts given that i was highly skeptical at first. but the eye candy in the form of Rob Pattersin/Edward Cullen is really irresistible (did you know Rob Pattersin was Cedric in Harry Potter??) .... argh. i wanna get bitten by this vamp too lor! BITE ME! Hao-e even bought New Moon (the sequal) to read this weekend and i spent almost ...

IT JUST DOESN'T FEEL LIKE CHINESE NEW YEAR!

As I learn about everyone's plans to welcome the Golden Tiger Year, the more unhappy I become.  Although it was a conscious effort on our part to avoid being home for the Lunar New Year, I cannot help but feel left out during this all-important holiday. On this island, we have all but 1 so-called Chinese restaurant.  Every year, they would put up the red banner a few weeks before CNY. One red banner compared to the numerous ones back home.  How pathetic eh? There is no atmosphere whatsoever. With the "influx" of Chinese kids, 4 in total plus 1 soon-to-be-born, I made myself pack some red envelopes from home, so that the kids can experience a little of the festivities that I am so used to.   WHAT IS CHINESE NEW YEAR WITHOUT THE RED PACKETS? This year, we've upgraded our celebration to include mahjong!  yes, the mahjong set and table arrived last weekend.  hao-e couldn't stop himself from ripping the plastic cover off those ivory -coloured tiles and we ...
